भारत माता के सपूत शहीद कैप्टन बाबा हरभजन सिंह एक ऐसे वीर सिपाही हैं, जिनकी देह त्यागने के बाद भी देशभक्ति नहीं छोड़ी। जानकारी के मुताबिक शहीद कैप्टन हरभजन सिंह 23वीं पंजाब बटालियन के जवान थे. वह 1966 में सेना में शामिल हुए और 1968 में एक दुर्घटना में शहीद हो गए।
जानकारी के अनुसार चीन से लगी सिक्किम सीमा पर तैनात दिवंगत हरभजन सिंह घोड़े पर सवार होकर अपने कार्यालय की ओर जा रहे थे. रास्ते में वह गलती से नाले में गिर गया। काफी तलाश करने के बाद भी कई दिनों तक उसका पता नहीं चला। फिर एक दिन उन्हें लापता घोषित कर दिया गया।

फिर जब हरभजन सिंह ने अपने साथी के सपने में आकर पूरी घटना बताते हुए अपने शव के बारे में जानकारी दी तो अगले दिन उनके साथियों ने उसी जगह उनका शव खोजा। इसके बाद उन्हें शहीद घोषित कर दिया गया और पूरे राजकीय सम्मान के साथ उनका अंतिम संस्कार किया गया।

वह अंतिम संस्कार इस बहादुर सैनिक के शरीर का हुआ था, इनकी आत्मा तो जीवित थी और देश की सीमा पर तैनात रहती थी। कुछ ऐसी घटनाएं घटने लगीं कि इनके साथियों और सीनियर्स को इन्हें जीवित मानते हुए इनकी सारी सेवाएं जारी रखनी पड़ी। इनका बंकर, इनकी वर्दी, इनकी ड्यूटी, इनकी छुट्टियां, इनकी तैनाती और इनकी सैलरी। सब पहले की तरह जारी रखा गया। जैसा इनके शरीर छोड़ने से पहले रहता था।
*बंकर को बनाया गया मंदिर*
हरभजन सिंह के बंकर को एक मंदिर के रूप में हर रोज साफ-सुथरा कर उनकी वर्दी पर प्रेस और जूतों पर पॉलिस किया जाने लगा। हैरान करनेवाली बात यह होती थी कि हर शाम को इन जूतों पर कीचड़ या धूल लगी मिलती थी, वर्दी गंदी होती थी और सुबह के समय बिस्तर में सलवटें
